Symone Male graduated with an honours degree in painting from James Cook University in 1999.
She is an extremely talented and dynamic young artist working in a figurative manner utilising European old master techniques with a contemporary twist.
Symone has an impressive artistic pedigree having descended from distinguished British Illustrator Arthur Rackham, Albert Taylor (Brisbane Customs House sculptor) and Neville Male, world-acclaimed photographer.
Symone started her art career at age six, exhibiting at the Brisbane City Council Gallery. Since 1978 she has shown her work regularly in Qld, NSW and Victoria.
In 1995 Symone won the “Best Exhibitor Award” at the Perc Tucker Regional Gallery and in 2003 won the People’s Choice Award at the prestigious “Kings Art Show” in Parramatta.
Her recent work, “Fe-male”, is essentially a series of figurative paintings of women of all ages. She celebrates the idea of the feminine, adorned or unadorned.
Symone brilliantly captures the vulnerable inner essence of her subjects and portrays them with dignity, strength and subtlety of character, allure and presence.
