 Frequently Asked Questions

How do you define “lesbian”?

lemonkind takes a broad definition of “lesbian” to mean any woman loving another woman, regardless of whether you self-identify as gay, dyke, femme, butch, queer, homosexual, bisexual, trans-lesbian or anything else.

We’re not about labels or stereotypes. We're trying to highlight and celebrate the diversity within our community.

If you gain value from this resource, you’re welcome.

Why is the site called "lemonkind"?

We didn't want to use the word "lesbian" in the title as spam filters and firewalls might block the site and our e-newsletter, assuming we offer porn for men.

Society acknowledges humankind, mankind and womankind so why not lemonkind?

"Lemon" is a term often used for lesbian. It's also used to refer to dud cars and sour people.

Why lesbians were dubbed "lemons" is a mystery - perhaps it's because we're so fresh, juicy and zesty.

Whatever the meaning, we're reclaiming it as our own along with other terms (such as dyke, queer and lezzo) formerly used to put us down.

Be proud of your lemon essence.

If anyone knows the origins of the term "lemon" for lesbian, do let us know.

Who funds the web site?

lemonkind is privately funded and relies on advertising revenue to cover costs.

We aim to keep content free - so spread the word to your friends and please encourage them to advertise.
